LET THERE BE LIGHT
My plan was for a serpentine trail of rebellious angels to spiral away from the light of heaven, their darkness forming the blackness as God created a place for their presence, the universe. Quite simple really. The darkened specs representing the fallen angels began to look like a dragon and then a snake & I realised that God was starting to speak into the painting & had a bit more planned than I did.
Then God said, “WHY DID I SAY ‘LET THERE BE LIGHT?’ I saw that the angels who had aspired to be greater than God had become opposite to Him, not light but darkness & they were making heaven dark with their decay. I had thought that these angels were spiralling away from heaven but now saw that they were rising upward trying to rise above the Godhead. They & Lucifer were once glorious angels but now their countenance was decaying as God locked them out of His presence. His words had begun the work of creation.
I had never planned to attempt to paint the Godhead & this is only a symbolic attempt at the impossible. Now the law of opposite had begun, universal laws like time, distance, discord, death, decay, absence, war, darkness, chaos & worst of all separation. The dark angels created chaos but God in creation turned it to harmony. “WHY HAVE I PAINTED THAT LOOP WHERE THE ANGELS TURN DOWNWARD?” I asked. “WHAT DOES IT LOOK LIKE TO YOU?” He said ”BIT LIKE A WOMB” I replied, knowing it was important. The womb was created for children so I painted God’s first son in creation, Adam using little coloured specks to give him a different, less shining quality to the Godhead. “LORD WHERE DID THE DUST COME FROM?” Adam was made from dust but there is no dust in Heaven……Then I realised it was the decaying countenance of the angels. Had God salvaged all that was once beautiful and made everything in the universe? No wonder our flesh is so weak & rebellious. Without thinking I had made Adam of coloured specs rescued from the beauty of the fallen angels. In the painting The hand of the Son has formed the planets, earth is already in the process of formation in the pit of the universe but I was puzzled because Adam wasn’t created until the 6th day, but Genesis 2 tells us that he was created on the day God formed the earth & planets but before there was any vegetation or animals. It then says that He plants the garden then puts the man into it. I had thought the painting was wrong but God showed me otherwise.
Notice the hands all outstretched for different reasons, to save, to create, to judge, to hold and to be held.
Such a sad painting to be cast away from God’s presence, but there is hope for us to return & that hope is in Jesus.
